2025-2026 ESL Teacher @ Sneed Elementary Primary Purpose: To assist Emergent Bilingual students in becoming proficient in English by planning and delivering sheltered lessons that access the four domains of language (ELPS) and academic content (TEKS) and/or skills that will contribute to their development as contributing citizens within a diverse and multicultural society. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college Valid Texas Teacher Certification including bilingual or ESL certification ESL Certification required Texas Reading Academy Certificate (Grades K-3) Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills in English Ability to build and maintain productive relationships among colleagues NOTE: Teachers who teach English Reading, Language Arts, Literature, Writing, ESOL I and II and serve Emergent Bilingual (EBs) in these classes must be ESL certified. They should also have knowledge in English language development, ELPS and sheltered instruction (3 day SIOP Training) Major Responsibilities and Duties: Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education. Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula. Create an inviting, risk-free, supportive and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working hours. Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students; maintain appropriate records; provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines. Administer state assessments as appropriate to student population. Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques and strategies. Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per Admission, Review, Dismissal ARD and/or LPAC decisions with students receiving services under all federal and state guidelines. Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines. Implement an appropriate and effective discipline management system for the classroom in alignment with building and district policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc. Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies). Maintain competence through professional development activities to meet campus, district and/or federal requirements. Comply with state and federal laws, District policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may hereafter be amended. Other Responsibilities: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
