Job Summary The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to hire a qualified Criminal Special Investigator to join our law enforcement agency. Under the direction of a Special Investigations Supervisor, this position will investigate alleged suspected criminal violations of Federal, State, or local laws to determine if the evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution. Responsibilities Criminal Special Investigator duties include: Investigate and process crime scenes, compile investigative findings, and present reports; testify in administrative and criminal proceedings. Search for evidence, collect, record, and submit evidence for analysis. Perform executive protection, conduct threat assessment investigations, gather intelligence, and analyze criminal trends. Provide advance notice to supervisor or agencies of impending situations with potential risk to department security. Develop and use informants to obtain leads on criminal, gang, and absconded felon activity. Maintain surveillance, perform undercover assignments, and debrief previously validated Security Threat Group (STG) members. Compile trend analysis reports and threat assessment certifications of groups and members. Make decisions regarding validation of STG members, appeals, and court proceedings. Obtain evidence or establish facts by interviewing, observing, and interrogating suspects and witnesses while analyzing records. Obtain and execute search and arrest warrants. Assist state, county, federal, and municipal agencies with all types of crime investigations. Attend AZPOST continuing training and maintain peace officer certification. Attend annual ADCRR training/meetings. Drive on state business with possible overnight stays. Perform other duties as a police officer may require. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of federal, state, and agency laws, regulations, and investigative procedures. Knowledge of investigative and interviewing techniques, case management, and prison gang history. Knowledge of inmate management and supervision techniques. Knowledge of personal computers and specialized law enforcement systems. Skill in applying investigative methods, interpreting legal codes, case management, and writing reports. Skill in building relationships, organization, time management, public speaking, and presentation. Ability to lift/carry up to 100+ lbs.; push/pull up to 100+ lbs.; walk/run 1+ miles; maintain confidentiality; conduct surveillance; compose reports. Selective Preferences At least one year of law enforcement investigative experience; AZPOST full-authority peace officer certification through a qualified POST secondary course. Pre-Employment Requirements Active AZPOST certification within one year of appointment; valid driver’s license for state business; pass background investigation, drug test, medical/physical exam, polygraph, and psychological evaluation; TB test annually; complete E-Verify.
