Job Description

Salient is one of the fastest-growing AI startups in consumer finance. In less than two years, we’ve achieved product-market fit, scaled to 8-figure ARR, and emerged as one of the undisputed leaders in financial voice AI.

A few fast facts:

  • Backed by YC and raised the largest Series A for a B2B startup from a16z

  • Reached product-market fit in <2 years and scaled to 8-digit ARR

  • 19-person team building a speech AI agent that handles millions of real customer calls per day, and fully deployed in production across major financial institutions (not just PoCs)

  • We’re on a mission to pass the Turing test for conversational speech in a telephony setting

  • In-person office culture in San Francisco, CA

About the Role

We're seeking a Front End Engineer to help us build intuitive, powerful interfaces for our cutting-edge AI financial SaaS platform. As an early team member at our fast-growing startup, you'll shape our product experience from the ground up, working closely with our product and AI engineers to create elegant solutions that make complex financial data accessible and actionable for our users. We're looking for someone who is deeply customer obsessed and relentlessly focused on delivering exceptional user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement responsive, high-performance user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks

  • Collaborate with product and AI engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Work alongside backend engineers to design and build API routes that power the frontend experience

  • Participate in API design discussions to ensure frontend requirements are properly addressed

  • Build reusable UI components and establish front-end architecture patterns

  • Implement data visualizations to present complex financial information clearly and intuitively

  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

  • Continuously gather user feedback and iterate rapidly based on customer needs

  • Advocate for the customer in all product discussions

  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in front-end development

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional front-end development experience

  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and modern front-end tooling

  • Strong understanding of CSS, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility

  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries (Chart.js, etc.)

  • Experience with front-end testing frameworks and methodologies

  • Proven track record of shipping user-focused products

  • Deep empathy for user needs and passion for user experience

  • Customer obsession - you're relentlessly focused on solving real customer problems

  • Strong bias toward action and ownership of your work

  • Enjoy getting something out to the customer as soon as possible

  • Experience building scalable systems (1→10)

  • Ability to work 4 days per week from our San Francisco office (open to candidates willing to relocate)

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in fast-growing startups ideally within a fintech company

  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and how they apply to user interfaces

  • Knowledge of WebGL or Canvas for advanced visualizations

  • Contribution to open-source projects

  • Background in UX/UI design

  • Experience with real-time data applications

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and implementation

Our Stack

  • React, TypeScript, Next.js, dbt, Tailwind CSS

  • Jest and Testing Library for testing

  • AWS infrastructure

As an early-stage company building at the frontier of AI, we work with high intensity and commitment. While schedules can vary by role/team, many weeks will demand extra focus, flexibility and time particularly during major launches and high impact sprints. We're seeking those who are aligned to and able to commit to that expectation which includes 4 days per week in our San Francisco Office.

Compensation Range: $180K - $250K
