Overview:

Contributes significantly to the financial performance of Investment Banking or Capital Markets mandates within a defined product set. Structures, originates, and executes transactions with minimal oversight, collaborating with balance sheet lender personnel, including the Investment Bank Middle Office, and various Credit, Risk, and Operations teams. Acts as the primary point of contact for external and internal clients. Coordinates Investment Bank initiatives in collaboration with the bank’s CRE, C&I, and Specialty lending segments, as well as senior and executive management.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the generation, development, and execution of capital advisory solutions aligned with the Investment Bank’s strategy to expand the division and drive revenue growth.
• Ensure revenue and profitability goals for mandates are met through deal structuring.
• Serve as the main contact for designated clients and lender counsel, managing relationships from pitch meetings to ongoing check-ins throughout the deal cycle.
• Maintain strong knowledge of the economy and market conditions, applying this to capital markets activities across various products and industries.
• Review deal materials (CIMs, LP, pitches, approval memos) for accuracy and quality.
• Develop and improve policies and procedures for designated business lines, ensuring compliance with bank credit and risk standards.
• Problem-solve in real-time, identifying and communicating transaction issues internally and externally.
• Train staff including VPs, Associates, and Analysts, and communicate hiring needs to senior management.
• Adhere to and promote the company’s risk and regulatory standards, escalating issues as needed.
• Foster an inclusive environment that reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain internal controls, including timely completion of audit and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Manage a defined product set, with a successful track record of sourcing mandates generating positive revenue over 5-7 years. Lead deal teams and manage engagements to successful completion. Possess extensive product knowledge, technical expertise, and transaction execution skills. External and internal interactions are essential for role performance.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Manage a team of Investment Bank professionals.

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field, with at least 9 years of investment banking and capital markets experience, or a total of 13 years of higher education and/or work experience without a degree.
• Minimum 3 years of proven leadership experience.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with high responsibility.
• Strong credit skills and knowledge of on/off-balance sheet lending.
• Expertise in designated capital markets or investment banking lines.
• Strong analytical skills, including financial statements, legal documents, spreadsheets, and financial models.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact across all levels of the bank and with external clients.
• Licenses: FINRA SIE, Series 79, Series 63.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Over 10 years of progressive roles in investment banking and capital markets; advanced degrees or specialized training are a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent travel required.

Compensation:

The salary range is $179,370.55 - $298,950.92 annually, depending on experience and skills.
