Position Summary

HackerOne is seeking an experienced product designer to join our growing team. As a Staff Product Designer, you know that design isn't just about aesthetics - it's the art of making things usable.
You will be working on advancing our offensive security testing offerings, applying GenAI via LLM as part of our Pentest as a Service and AI Red Teaming product lines.

As part of your product area, you will take ownership of all parts of the design process, including problem definition, vision, approach, decisions, interaction design, user research, and usability testing. You'll work hand in hand with the product manager and engineers to drive the product forward. The ideal candidate is creative and innovative and has the organizational skills to plan and execute initiatives to improve the overall product experience. You will work with product and development teams primarily based in the US and the Netherlands.

The mission of the Design Team at HackerOne

We are customer-obsessed. We are creating a world-class user experience for customers. Our diverse team, which collaborates with Product Managers, Product Marketers, Engineers, and Data Scientists, brings a human-centered approach to our work. We love to win together.

At HackerOne, we embrace a Flexible Work approach, enabling our team members to work remotely while maintaining productivity and collaboration. We are seeking candidates located in Seattle, WA; San Francisco Bay Area; Boston, MA; Austin, TX; or Washington, DC , and the surrounding metropolitan areas, to facilitate occasional in-person interactions as needed. While the position is primarily remote, there will be periodic in-person requirements to support team collaboration and foster stronger connections. This approach ensures flexibility while providing opportunities to build meaningful in-person relationships that strengthen our team and company culture.

What You Will Do
  • Work closely with product managers and engineers to design product experiences that our customers and hackers love.

  • Own the entire design process from start to implementation, including user research, wireframes, prototypes, and detail-oriented visual designs for engineering teams.

  • Present your work and the thinking behind it at weekly design critiques with the broader design team.

  • Champion our growing Design Language System by leveraging its existing patterns and advocating for new ones to ensure consistency throughout our products

  • Identify and communicate design rationale and tradeoffs to key stakeholders

  • Pivot between contributing to high-level product decisions and understanding the low-level implications of those decisions

  • Keep your Figma files organized and collaborative, enabling other designers and engineers to quickly understand where you are in a project and how they can collaborate

Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of UX and product design experience (Bonus: Experience working in AI, security and/or on B2B, enterprise software products or two-sided marketplaces).

  • Proven ability to coach peers in AI-first design practices, re-architect workflows to embed AI effectively, and lead adoption of AI-driven approaches across cross-functional product work streams.

  • Experience in conducting user interviews, usability tests and summary of findings.

  • A strong understanding of UX and product interaction problems: Awareness of existing patterns and models, and can design in systems, not just elements or pages.

  • A strong history of working with product management and development teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Values feedback and open communication; being able to give and receive feedback and learn from it.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in UX or a design-related field.
