The Accountant II performs moderately complex accounting functions and contributes to the accuracy of financial reporting by independently managing assigned areas. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling complex accounts, performing variance analyses, supporting the preparation of internal financial statements, and assisting with internal and external audits. This role may lead certain components of the month-end and year-end close, contribute to process improvements, and interpret financial data for internal stakeholders. The Accountant II works with moderate autonomy and may serve as a resource for junior staff.

Essential Functions: •Create and maintain job procedures for all primary job responsibilities.
•Perform daily job duties that could include branch balancing, fixed assets, ATM/ITMs, cash accounts, monitoring clearing accounts, mortgage accounting, among other tasks.
•Maintain financial records and ensure financial transactions are properly recorded.
•Reconcile balance sheet accounts to third party supporting documentation.
•Investigate and explain month-over-month and forecast-to-actual variances for selected accounts.
•Assist in updating accounting department policies.

Required Minimum Qualifications: •Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
•2+ years of related experience
•Must be self-managed and capable of balancing multiple tasks
•Open to change and willing to learn new skills
•Works effectively in a team environment
•Possesses the ability to follow up on pending issues
•Possesses the ability to meet deadlines
•Demonstrates strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail
•Possesses strong analytical skills
•Intermediate level Excel experience (Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.)
•Complies with all Credit Union policies and procedures including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations
Preferred Qualifications: •Master's degree in accounting, finance or related field
•4+ years of related experience
•Interest in pursuing CPA license
•Applied knowledge of credit union or financial services systems, policies, and procedures
